Blended learning materials for ‘design-oriented’ CBL
Summary of the project
The project "Developing Blended Learning Materials for ‘Design-Oriented’ Challenge-Based Learning" has been focusing on renovating the Design Science Methodology course at TU/e. It has been involving the digitization of lectures and educational materials, creating space for project work and optimizing course design using digital tools and challenge-based learning principles. The project has been enabling students to learn core concepts independently and apply them in project work, supported by instructor-led coaching sessions and interactive lectures.
Aim of the project
The goal of the project has been to understand and implement challenge-based learning in design-oriented education, digitize course materials, and use digital resources to enhance student engagement in project work, coaching sessions and interactive workshop-like lectures. The project has been redesigning the Canvas page of the course for better clarity and structure, making the course more effective and interactive, aligning with modern educational needs.
Results and learnings
The project has been successful in digitalizing course materials and enhancing student engagement in project work. The project has resulted in 16 short video lectures, two animations and five online quizzes that facilitate students’ understanding of the core concepts of design science methodology and showcase exemplary design science projects. The lectures have been designed in an interactive way to enable students apply the core concepts of the course in a workshop setting. The learning goals, challenge selection process, the Canvas page and the assessment of the course has been redesigned to implement challenge-based learning principles more effectively to support student learning and competency development.
