Sustainable Development Goals
Building on the concepts of ecological boundaries and social foundations, it is important to note that the international community has adopted a comprehensive framework that reflects these multidimensional concerns: the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This agenda, consisting of 17 goals, seeks to ensure that all individuals have access to essential resources and opportunities—representing the social foundation—while simultaneously safeguarding the planet's ecological systems—aligning with the concept of planetary boundaries.
In this way, the SDGs operationalize a vision of sustainable development that resonates with frameworks such as Doughnut Economics. They offer a globally recognized structure for navigating the complex interdependencies between social equity, economic prosperity, and environmental integrity. As such, the SDGs not only reflect shared global priorities but also provide a practical tool for translating systemic thinking into policy and action across scales.
