Sustainability

The three key components often associated with a general understanding of sustainability are planet, society, and economy (Elkington, 1997 – the Triple Bottom Line). We view sustainability as the pursuit of balance between actions, decisions, and their impacts on the environment and society. Actions are considered sustainable when they do not jeopardize planetary or social boundaries and, ideally, contribute positively to them. Additionally, we regard sustainability as a systemic concept, recognizing that actions or decisions with positive local effects can sometimes have negative global consequences. This interconnectedness plays a critical role in evaluating the overall sustainability of actions and decisions.
