From Teaching to Coaching
Do you struggle with coaching students when they approach you with the question 'Is this good'? Do students come to you with the remark 'we're stuck'? Would you like to practice with handling these questions in a structured way? And simultaneously support the learning process of your students? This workshop is for you!
During this workshop you will practice with supporting the learning process of your students in a CBL course. You will do this in small groups using a case from your own practice or an example case. For this, you will use a coaching approach called Coaching for Learning.
The Coaching for Learning approach gives room to discuss content, ways in which students tackle the learning process and how they, for example, deal with emotions that come with the uncertainty of a CBL project. It also is a tool to provide the scaffolds that students need from teachers in interdisciplinary engineering education.
During the 3-hour workshop, you will get familiar with two phases of the Coaching for Learning approach, and you will practice with them. The two phases are:
- Finding the obstacle. In this phase you find out where the students get stuck
- Finding the next step. In this phase you support the students’ learning process
- For who: Teachers who have done the CBL Masterclass for teachers and/or are aware of the basic principles of CBL.
- Time investment: 4 hours (workshops) + 1 hour (self-study)
- Status: Open for registrations
