Summary of the Project
The Other Side Space (TOSS) is a Pilot project supported by the BOOST! Education innovation fund. TOSS provides a digital platform designed to facilitate interaction among the staff and students of TU/e’s Built Environment department, both internally and externally. This platform features a digital representation of the department’s community and its physical building, Vertigo. The digital replica of Vertigo allows for virtual exploration of the department’s research and educational activities and content, while the integrated digital community fosters content sharing and interaction among students and employees.
Aim of the Project
TOSS offers a tightly integrated digital platform aimed at enhancing accessibility, communication, and social interaction while promoting a healthy lifestyle. A standout feature is its online, live, and spatial portfolio, co-created by the entire department. This portfolio highlights research and educational content, making it easier for faculty and students to share their work and connect with one another. The platform also fosters social interaction by providing a space for students and employees to engage and collaborate effectively. Furthermore, TOSS supports a healthy lifestyle by encouraging users to engage in physical movement within the building.
Result and learnings
The prototype of the TOSS platform is now online and accessible at toss.bwk.tue.nl. Built Environment students and faculty can sign in using their institutional accounts, while external users can browse the platform’s content, community interactions, and the virtual replica of the building. Currently, the prototype is limited to the main lobby and the 7th floor of the Vertigo building. The platform is in its testing, debugging, and finalization phase, with a full launch planned for Semester B of the 2024-2025 academic year.
